About Us
Monte Vista Elementary School, part of the West Covina Unified School District, is located 19 miles east of Downtown Los Angeles in a vibrant and diverse community. According to the 2010 U.S. Census, West Covina is home to a varied population, reflected in Monte Vista’s student body. Since opening in 1954, Monte Vista has grown to serve approximately 440 students from Transitional Kindergarten through sixth grade. The school’s rich cultural environment is further enhanced by its dual language immersion program in Spanish, which supports bilingual education and cultural fluency.
Monte Vista has a long tradition of community engagement, with strong parental involvement through the PTA, School Site Council, and English Learner Advisory Committee. Parents actively participate in workshops, and other school events, creating a collaborative atmosphere that supports student success. This partnership is essential in meeting the diverse needs of students and enriching their educational experience.
Monte Vista provides a range of innovative programs, including mariachi and traditional music, visual arts, theater, musicals, golf, tennis, socio-emotional learning, student council, robotics, coding, and academic tutoring. Additionally, the school offers before and after-school programs to further support student needs. These diverse offerings, combined with a focus on socio-emotional development and a dual language immersion program, ensure that students receive a comprehensive education and are well-prepared for future academic and personal success.
